WorldLink Activities
Working closely with teachers and the community, WorldLink is able to provide a comprehensive educational experience for students. Teachers are given extensive preparatory materials prior to the Youth Town Meetings followed by classroom visits. They are also encouraged to facilitate long-term projects and follow-up discussions with students after WorldLink events. Student participants determine topics for many WorldLink activities— therefore, the issues are sure to engage and interest students, as well as challenge them.
-
WorldLink hosts a free, annual Youth Town Meeting at the University of San Diego. Over 700 students from different high schools in the San Diego and Tijuana region join international leaders to explore challenges facing youth and their communities around the globe. The State Department, United Nations, leading universities, humanitarian organizations, and non-governmental agencies send top-level speakers to participate in the event each year. Student moderators facilitate all break out and discussion sessions.
-
WorldLink offers smaller, specialized Youth Forums which host international leaders and experts engaging in dialogues with students.
-
WorldLink brings diverse students to community activities, lectures, lunches, and dinners where they participate in discussions with adults from the policy-making sectors, as well as business and service communities.
-
WorldLink publishes student-produced newspapers on events, issues, and concerns that the youth identify as important for peer education.
-
WorldLink interns create a WorldLink Reader, a classroom tool that provides youth with the important background knowledge on the WorldLink Youth Town Meeting (YTM) topics
-
WorldLink hosts an annual Junior Model United Nations conference from different San Diego middle schools in May.
