IPJ Film Series
"Innocent Voices"
6:30pmIPJ Theatre
The IPJ and Social Issues Committee is pleased to present this two hour film based on the true story of screenwriter Oscar Torres’s embattled childhood, Luis Mandoki’s INNOCENT VOICES is the poignant tale of Chava, an eleven-year-old boy who suddenly becomes the “man of the house” after his father abandons the family in the middle of El Salvador’s civil war. The actual experiences of Torres, who escaped conscription in his home village of Cuscatazingo, El Salvador, to flee to the U.S. in 1986, are captured in this award winning film. The film presentation will be followed by a panel discussion featuring Oscar Torres (Screenwriter, Innocent Voices), Luis Mandoki (Director, Innocent Voices), Dr. Thomas Reifer (USD Professor of Sociology), and Cheryl Clark (Co-Director of the USD Social Issues Committee). |
