"Division, Dictatorship or Democracy: Notes on the current situation and prospects for the future of Iraq"Dana Eyre
Dana Eyre is currently serving as Senior Advisor to the USAID Mission in Iraq. His work there focuses in the area of democracy and governance, and includes responsibility for the civic dialogue program, part of the Coalition Provisional Authority’s civic education program. The civic dialogue program has over the past 5 months conducted 8 national agenda conferences for groups ranging from young adults to the disabled, and over 12,000 small-group democracy dialogue sessions with over 500,000 Iraqis attending. Prior to working in Iraq, Dr. Eyre served for three years as senior advisor to the Deputy Special Representative of the Secretary General for Economic Development in the UN mission in Kosovo. From 1991 to 2000 he was a lecturer at the Naval Postgraduate School in Monterey, California, teaching courses in peacekeeping, conflict and conflict resolution, and strategic planning. He earned his PhD in sociology from Stanford University. He is also a Lieutenant Colonel in the US Army reserves and has served with the NATO peacekeeping force in Bosnia-Herzegovina. |
