Dr. Matthew Baum is a Professor of Political Science at the University of California, Los Angeles. His research interests include political communications, mass media, public opinion, and foreign policy. He will present from his research on the influence of “soft” news programs, programs geared towards entertainment rather than news broadcasting, on the perceptions of war, foreign policy, and presidential decision-making.
