"Before the Rain"
Macedonia has historically been at the heart of the Balkan conflicts and the stunning locations used in this film were previously the sites of bloody wars. "If you take out the machine guns, the leather jackets, the Nike shoes, and the Adidas shirts, this same clash could be taking place 200 years ago," according to writer/director Milcho Manchevski. He tells this story of personal conflict and emotions in three parts. This film has won over 30 awards, including the Independent Spirit Award, Best Foreign Film in 1996, and was an Oscar nominee in 1995. |
