Bios: IPJ Staff

Anne Birkel, M.S., is the Executive Assistant at the Joan B. Kroc Institute for Peace & Justice (IPJ) at the University of San Diego. Birkel is responsible for overall office management, including training and supervising federal work study students; assisting the Executive Director and the rest of the staff with every day tasks and special events; managing financial databases; and creating a number of IPJ organizational worksheets and publications. Born in Harrisburg, Pennsylvania, Birkel lived most of her adult life in upstate New York where she raised five children while pursuing a career as an educational administrator for the Diocese of Rochester. Birkel earned her Masters in Science in Theological Studies from Marywood University in 1996 and her B.A from Syracuse University in 1969.
