Bios: IPJ Staff

 

Karla Alvarez is the WorldLink program coordinator at the Joan B. Kroc Institute for Peace & Justice.

Languages: French, Spanish.

Regions and countries of interest: Colombia, Mexico.

Topics of interest: Climate change, Youth.

Alvarez is beginning her fifth year at the institute as the youth liaison, supervising high school interns year-round and coordinating the yearly Youth Town Meeting and quarterly youth forums. Alvarez was involved with the institute throughout her undergraduate career developing the WorldLink program through research and outreach. Previously, Alvarez was a Community Service Intern Corps intern where she explored the relationship between corporations and non-profit organizations. She volunteers her time to various community organizations with a particular interest in mentor and care-giving programs. Originally from Port Chester, New York, Alvarez has also lived in Mexico and France. She is fluent in Spanish and French and studied Italian and Japanese. Her international exposure inspired her to pursue a career in international relations with a focus on Latin America. Alvarez received her B.A. in international relations from the University of San Diego.
