Reflections on War and Peace at USD

The University of San Diego's Joan B. Kroc Institute for Peace & Justice hosts an evening of thoughtful insight on issues of war and peace through the words of poets, politicians, and peacemakers Thursday, Oct. 9, at 7 p.m. in the IPJ Theatre.

"Reflections on War and Peace" includes selections from Shakespeare, Bob Dylan, Elie Wiesel, Eleanor Roosevelt, and others, read by ten of San Diego's most exciting theater artists. The performance is presented by Voices of Women, a San Diego- based group committed to education on international issues and foreign policy.

Following the readings, the Institute will introduce the four outstanding women leaders selected for the 2003 Women PeaceMakers Program. The program, initiated through a grant from the Fred J. Hansen Foundation, enables the participants to spend 10 weeks in residence at the USD, sharing their knowledge, documenting their work in the field and engaging in collaborative research. The four women are Hyun-Sook Lee of Korea, Raya Kadyrova of Kyrgyzstan, Zahra Ugaas Farah of Somalia, and Dalit Baum of Israel.

Tickets for the performance, discussion with the PeaceMakers and reception are $20. Voices of Women is donating all proceeds to the Institute for Peace & Justice Nepal Project's women's programs.

The Joan B. Kroc Institute for Peace & Justice seeks to foster peace, cultivate justice, and create a safer world through education, research and peacemaking activities.
